INTENT

At St Mary’s we believe that learning a foreign language provides a valuable
educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. Our aim is to enrich our pupils’
experiences – opening up the world around them, deepening their understanding and
fostering their natural curiosity.
Our vision is to inspire our pupils to embrace diversity, equipping children with the skills
and knowledge they need to participate in a rapidly changing world and be global
citizens of the future.

IMPLEMENTATION

At St Mary’s we use CUSP curriculum to deliver high quality French teaching.
French is taught through Years 3 – 6, in which children are immersed in the language –
experimenting with vocabulary, making links, playing games and hearing stories.
CUSP curriculum for French aims to ensure that all pupils will understand and respond
to spoken and written language, speak with increasing confidence, fluency and
spontaneity, continually improve the accuracy of their pronunciation and can write at
varying lengths, for different purposes and audiences.
Children are encouraged to share their new learning aloud with their peers, offer
feedback what they have heard and participate in class discussions with the aim of
fostering pupil pride in their work.

IMPACT

As a result of their French language education, pupils at St Mary’s will be skilled,
confident and enthusiastic linguists. Confident in using the language through many
opportunities for spoken language practice, pupils will be able to speak in full
sentences, use familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures.
Furthermore, at St Mary’s we place emphasis on appropriate pronunciation and
intonation when reading aloud – essential when mastering a new language – and can
be heard across all KS2 year groups.
Children at St Mary’s go into the world able to communicate effectively, are confident
in their French skills – taking their linguistic knowledge

From everyone at St Mary's we would like to wish our school community a very happy summer holiday.

Have a wonderful holiday creating new memories together and we look forward to seeing you again in September for a brand new academic year.

We can’t believe that we are at the end of another school year. There has been so much to celebrate this year and looking back it is hard to believe everything that the children have experienced, achieved and succeeded in.

What an incredible year - memories have been made to cherish forever.

💙Love conquers all and shines through everything we do at St Mary's.💙
